Description:

"Porter fly" - eggs can be clearly seen glued to the underside of this Tabanids wing. Gravid female Dermatobia hominis use porter flies to transport their young onto suitable vertebrate hosts. The porter fly is released after attachment of the eggs, and goes from blood meal to blood meal, all the time transporting the Dermatobia eggs and first instar larvae, which can crawl off onto any suitable hosts visited by the porter fly.
